From gloom to Glory
Gloom, in the dictionary meaning is partial or total darkness, a dark or shadowy place. It’s lowness of spirits, dejection, an atmosphere of despondency. While glory is brighten, cheer up, lighten up and perk up. It’s used to express the ideas of importance, greatness, honour, splendour, power, and so on.
Jesus trial and death was a time of gloom, but His rising was Glorious!
Jesus trial and death was a time of gloom. As I read through the account of Jesus’ trial in Luke 23 I was moved with compassion as He was treated with contempt, he was pushed here and there by pilate and Herod. With no one to defend him. He was mocked, arrayed in gorgeous robes and sent back to Pilate. He stood without a friend amidst the court of Pilate. He suffered this humiliation for you and me, for our redemption. He surrendered and declared that it was finished, (Jn 19:30). “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” He gave his all.
But alas, on the 3rd day. There was a shaken. The veil of the temple rented (Mat. 27:51). “Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,”. The glory of God manifested, Jesus Christ the Son of God arose, the King of kings arose, hallelujah! The strife is done, the battle is done, the victory of life is won; The song of triumph has begun. Gloom turned to glory, Hallelujah!
Jesus did it All, how should we respond?
Beloved, he bore our sorrows. (Is 53:4).
“Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
1 Peter 2:24.
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
Jesus, did all, because he is interested in your welfare. He wants to take you from gloom to glory; only, if you can accept Him as your Lord and Savior. And if you have, you are to rededicate yourself to him.
You have no ownership of yourself, the best choice for everyone is to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. You don’t choose your parents, your parents didn’t choose you. The God who sent you here owns you either you believe Him or not. But He has given us freedom to choose. (Jn. 3: 35-36) “The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” The best and the first thing you can do to yourself is to accept him as your personal Lord and Savior. “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” (Col. 1:16-17)
God’s interest in the welfare of His people is evident since creation.
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 1:26-28.
God created us for His pleasure and wants us to prosper as we follow Him.
The glory of God can never be expressed in poverty. (3Jn 2). “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” He is interested in your all round prosperity.
He will move you from gloom to glory as you allow the power of resurrection to do the needful in your life by surrendering to His Lordship. Happy Easter!
